share the vibe

Part of the mission of Stove’s Record Club is not only to share a love of vinyl and other physical media but also a love of the music itself and to express how different songs can make you feel at different times; the Vibe it gives you and the great memories it can resurface for you. When I was young, we would record ‘mix tapes’ on cassettes, sometimes even trying to time the recording of a song playing on the radio because we couldn’t always afford the albums or even the 45’s of the songs and artists we liked. These mix tapes were the prelude to today’s Spotify type playlists. Below are some playlists that mean a lot to me, and I hope SRC members will find them enjoyable. Additional playlists of SRC member curated collections are included in the “Members” section bios.

SRC members are also welcome to share their playlists, just contact Stove or Aubrey and we’ll get them included here. We love to hear what other people love to listen to !!

Enjoy, #vibingwithstove !!

A pirate looks at sixty

This playlist was derived by a ‘desert island’ style challenge thrown out by SRC members Alaina & Gabby and their friends. Goal to pick 50 and only 50 songs that you could listen to if you were stranded on an island for the rest of your life. The playlist title is a tribute to the late, great, Jimmy Buffett and his song, “A Pirate Looks At Forty”

ten cent wings, fifty cent drafts

Reference to “A Pirate Looks At Sixty” playlist above….being twice the age of Alaina and Gabby, I could not contain my playlist to just 50 songs, so this one represents my formative, pre-frontal cortex development years!, from middle school to college graduation, so for those that know me, this may explain a lot ! The playlist title is a nod to my college days when Sutters in Troy had their Wednesday special on great wings and bad beer!

Grapevine Cadillac

For fans of 1990’s country music and driving around in junky cars and trucks with people you love. Note the cover art is the first car of my very own, a 1975 Chevy Bel Air, nicknamed the “Wave Skimmer” because it felt like driving a boat on the roads and could fit more people than should have been allowed.

Play something country

Another group of Country bangers. Fave song on this playlist is “…19 Something” by Mark Wills, because it describes my growing up in the 1970’s & 1980’s perfectly, including my mother Nancy crying when Elvis Presley died. Cover art is me and SRC member Rachel at a Dierks Bentley concert at SPAC and making fun of the super drunk couple that was looking around everywhere but toward the stage!

On the boat again

The playlist title and kick off song is by Jake Owen and sets the mood to just get out on the water but after that, anything goes and any song anyone wants to hear while out on the water and in the sun is fair game. This playlist will continue to grow and adapt with new songs and suggestions each time we take a cruise on and around Canada Lake with family and friends!

Drinking sunken Lullabies

For fans of Irish music and partying with me on St. Patrick’s Day at the Parting Glass in Saratoga. (Pour one out for “Forthlin Road”)!!! Playlist name based on my constant messing up of the lyric “Singing Drunken Lullabies” when I’ve had a few too many Smithwick’s.

BK

Our first member playlist submittal was provided by Rachel and is a mix of punk, grunge, new wave, rap and just all-around bangers that predate the birth of her best friend Kaitlin. If it’s not post-Y2K1 pop, Kate is notorious for not caring about it and refers to all such nonsense as “that’s BK”….(ie; Before Kate). This playlist is an attempt to broaden Kate’s horizons and a key initiative of Stove’s Record Club so any suggestions to keep this playlist growing are welcome; just text Stove or Roach!
